Ron Howard’s now 23-year-old (!) adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ 1957 youngsters’s e-book continues to be, even after the squillionth watch, a blast: Jim Carrey performs the Grinch, a cantankerous inexperienced monster-creature, who, feeling significantly malevolent one 12 months, decides to steal all of the presents, decorations and meals of the Who, the townspeople of Whoville. As artists, Carrey and Seuss are individually zany, kooky – a bit mad. So it follows that seeing them converge on this movie leads to eccentric, noisy, foolish Christmas enjoyable.
