Teenager dies in Christmas Eve water-tubing accident


A household in south-east Queensland is going through a tragic Christmas after the demise of a 14-year-old in a water-tubing accident on the Fraser Coast on Sunday.

Police divers retrieved {the teenager}’s physique within the Mary River at Owanyilla, about 45 kilometres south of Hervey Bay, simply after 6pm on Christmas Eve.

“The kid was final seen at roughly 10.15am when he fell into the river whereas water-tubing and didn’t resurface,” a police spokesperson stated in an announcement.

“The demise shouldn’t be thought-about suspicious, and police will put together a report for the coroner.”

The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter had joined the determined search at 10.45am.

“The teenager was believed to have been being towed behind a ship, on an inflatable tube, when he fell off and didn’t resurface,” a LifeFlight spokesman stated.

There was no sighting of the teenager by the helicopter crew, which returned to base about 1.30pm.

The police spokesperson stated the boy’s household had requested privateness as they handled the lack of the boy.
