Packaging waste curiosity teams are aggressively lobbying on the European Parliament premises, in breach of the recently-approved ‘Qatargate’ inner guidelines, an official supply from the European Parliament instructed Euractiv.
On Wednesday (22 November), MEPs will vote on the draft Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), a regulation tabled in November 2022 to fight rising waste, increase reuse, and promote recycling.

‘Qatargate’ guidelines violated
The so-called ‘Qatargate’ scandal erupted final December in Brussels with the arrest of European Parliament vice-president Eva Kaili and former MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri, along with different MEP assistants, after police discovered ‘luggage of money’ of their premises.
Panzeri took a plea deal and collaborated with the police, whereas Kaili denied any wrongdoing. The suspects have all been launched whereas the trials are ongoing.
The allegation is that some MEPs and EU officers obtained massive sums of cash from Qatar and Morocco to affect the European Parliament on home coverage issues, reminiscent of human rights and the rule of legislation.
In response to the scandal, in September the European Parliament adopted a gaggle of inner guidelines to tighten safety round lobbying. Nevertheless, MEPs are denouncing that lately these guidelines had been violated.
