Lengthy Seashore firefighters labored Sunday night time to extinguish a blaze that erupted on the historic Second Samoan Church close to downtown.
The fireplace was first reported round 6:15 p.m. on the constructing on seventh Avenue and Cedar Avenue, Lengthy Seashore Hearth Capt. Jack Crabtree stated.
Firefighters arrived and encountered smoke and flames arising out of the church’s central dome. Inside an hour, a crew of about 50 firefights put out the blaze.
One firefighter suffered an unknown harm and was transported to a hospital about 7:30 p.m., Crabtree stated.
No different accidents had been reported.
The church was in-built 1924 because the Second Church of Christ Scientist. The constructing, with its Neoclassical Revival-style, Corinthian columns and visible landmark central dome, was added to the Nationwide Register of Historic Locations in 2005.
The reason for the fireplace is underneath investigation, and the extent of the harm to the constructing is just not instantly recognized.
