The opposition Congress and AIUDF staged walkouts from the Assam Meeting on Monday, protesting the choice by the state Cupboard to repeal the Assam Muslim Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, 1935.

The AIUDF had moved an adjournment movement to debate the cupboard choice, which was rejected by Speaker Biswajit Daimary.

The Congress maintained that amendments might have been made to the unique invoice with out repealing it altogether.

The Assam Cupboard on Friday had accredited the choice to repeal the Act in a bid to finish the social menace of kid marriage within the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned.

Responding to the opposition events’ criticism, Mr Sarma asserted within the Home on Monday that the invoice shall be repealed as it’s a step in the direction of abolishing youngster marriage.
