A retired engineer was allegedly cheated of Rs 1.6 crore by frauds right here who requested for ”warning cash” to push back a attainable probe by a central investigative company, police stated on Thursday.

The accused, posing as staff of a world courier service, claimed {that a} bundle the sufferer despatched had incriminating paperwork and medicines and probe businesses knew of it, they stated.

They allegedly requested for ”warning deposit” saying it will likely be returned as soon as the investigation is over, and the sufferer paid Rs 1.6 crore to them, police added.

The alleged transactions occurred between Could 2-6 and the matter got here to mild when the person informed his daughter about it.

Police stated a case relating to the incident has been registered on the Cyber, Financial and Narcotics Crime Police Station in in Mangaluru metropolis.
