Good Samaritan saves lady from waters close to Bendigo


A girl in her 70s has been rescued from surging floodwaters after the car she was travelling in was swept off the street within the state’s north on Monday evening, as elements of regional Victoria brace for extra rain this week.

The 74-year-old lady from Eaglehawk was travelling in a convoy with a buddy in Elmore when their autos had been swept off Elmore-Raywood Street about 7.15pm.

The girl travelled about 100 metres as her car was swept down Bendigo Creek at Naughtons Bridge earlier than clambering onto the department of a tree.

Victoria Police say the girl was rescued by a passerby, referred to as Mitch, who swam out to the girl a number of occasions earlier than he was ready to make use of a ratchet strap to safe the girl to a tree.

Mitch then stayed with the girl for as much as an hour ensuring she was OK earlier than emergency providers rescued the girl, police say.

Mitch mentioned he’d gone all the way down to the creek to take a photograph because it was the very best he had ever seen it, when he noticed a “bloke wandering round along with his arms on his head pointing.”
